SUBJECT: Aircraft Accident Notification: Large irregular Carrier, Great Lakes Airlines, |
DC-4, N 30070, Gage, Oklahoma, June 15, |

A Great Lakes Airlines flight was en route from Kansas City, Missouri, to Burbank, California, on a IFR flight plan. On board were the crow of three - Captain Charles Tededsky, Copilot Frank MacDonald, and Stewardess June Miller - and 75 passengers. When in the vicinity of Gage, Oklahoma, No. 3 engine caught fire. The first could not be extinguished end progressed rapidly until the engine fell from the nacelle. None of the aircraft’s electrical equipment could be used and a landing was made at Gage. The right main gear cal lapsed because of fire damage and the aircraft continued to burns All crew and passengers are reported to have evacuated with no serious injuries; however, the aircraft is reported to be a complete loss. |
Investigators Leon H. Tangoay and Harold B. Carr of the Fort Worth office and P. N. Goldstein of the Kansas City office are en route to the scene. |
