Aircraft Accident - Preliminary Notification Lyndon B. Johnson Corporation, Convair 340, N. 94256, near Johnson City, Texas, February 19, 1961

Preliminary information indicated that the aircraft departed Austin, Texas, at 1908 c. s. t. on an instrument flight clearance to the L. B. Johnson ranch, with Pilot Harold D. Teague and Copilot Charles Williams on board.

The 1900 c. s. t. weather at Austin was reported to be: measured 900 feet broken, 2,000 feet overcast; visibility 5 miles; very light drizzle and fog; temperature 41 degrees, dewpoint 39 degrees; wind south-southeast at 10 knots; ceilings ragged.

Preliminary information further reveals that the planned itinerary of the flight was to proceed directly to and terminate at the L. B. Johnson ranch, weather permitting.

The flight crew reported to Austin radio as being over the Johnson ranch at 1930 c. s. t. and advised that the flight was returning to Austin because of adverse weather conditions in the vicinity of the ranch.

The aircraft wreckage was located at 0930 c. s. t. February 20, 1961, approximately seven miles southeast of Johnson City, Texas. Both crew members, sole occupants of the aircraft, sustained fatal injuries.

Mr. Truman W. Finch of the Board's Forth Worth office will be in charge of the investigative team.
